Changing the World - a response to the BLM movement

Changing the World has been the goal of The Skinny since our founding. We take this pledge seriously. Recently, racially-motivated events have taken place across the United States that have caused us to pause, listen, and learn.

As the nation continues to reel in response to traumatic footage of George Floyd’s horrific death at the hands of a Minneapolis Police officer, citizens across the country have participated in protests and demonstrations spotlighting systemic racism and calling for a response. These protests continue today.

The loud and persistent protests in the United States, as well as responses around the world, are a force to be reckoned with. As we’ve seen - some of us first hand in the protests in Indianapolis - these protests can be peaceful or they can escalate. But the end goal is the same - Change. At Skinny & Co, we continue to seek ways we can support, be involved with, and make a difference in this worthwhile work for change.

As a company, Skinny & Co. has chosen to take specific actions to intentionally implement measures for racial equality within our company:

    • Intentionally diversify our employees from the top down in the hiring of new employees
    • Seeking out models, influencers, and voices that represent the opinions and backgrounds of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color
    • Spotlight 10 small businesses led by BIPOC on our blog and/or social media
    • Donate money to assist those seeking mental health intervention without the means to pay for it. (Rachel Cargle's The Loveland Foundation provides financial assistance to black women and girls seeking therapy. They partner with culturally competent organizations to provide participants with 4-8 complimentary sessions.)
    • Donate products to a nonprofit organization focused on assisting African-American youth (Black Girls Code is dedicated to increasing the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color with the skills to occupy some of the 1.4 million computing job openings expected to be available in the U.S. by 2020, and to train 1 million girls by 2040.)

If you know of a person, organization, or cause that we could partner with, please contact us at content@skinnyandcompany.com and provide us any relevant information.

Thank you for your patience and support as we find our role in this important movement.
